Memory Café Offers Companionship and Peace of Mind to the Community

Memory cafes unite members of a local Alzheimer's Community in a unique, important, and powerful way. Memory Cafes allow those living with dementia and their caregivers to live their lives in a real and meaningful way.

You will recognize both names because they are contributors to the Alzheimer's Reading Room -- Carole Larkin and Pat Sneller. The video and article featured below is a wonderful example of how a Memory Cafe can benefit persons living with dementia, their caregivers, and an entire Alzheimer's community.

Thanks to the combined efforts of Carole, Pat and many others the Alzheimer's Community north of Dallas, Texas (Richardson and the surrounding area) is coming together in a real and important way.

Memory Cafe's reach the people in the grass  in a way that cannot be accomplished by support groups, and they allow both the patient and the caregiver to get out of their home together and live life.

He Said. "Having Alzheimer's, sometimes you feel very alone. Having a chance to talk with other people who are going through the same thing that we're dealing with, it makes it so much easier." ~ Lee Sneller, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease

She Said. "The caregivers frankly need to talk. Even if it isn't about some issue that they're trying to deal with at home, it's good to talk to someone else who's living with it. So I think we all benefit a lot." ~ Pat Sneller, Lee's wife
